FAQs

How do I use the Team Profit & Loss stats table and why is it useful?

The purpose of the top 20 team profit and loss stats table is to give punters the option of seeing the best ranked teams in England in terms of betting profitability, were you to have staked one unit on each outcome (win/draw/win) for each match so far in the current season.

Only the 20 most profitable teams (based on the % return on investment (ROI) you would have received were you to have placed a one unit stake on them to win each of their games) are shown in this table.  This makes it a handy table to spot, at a glance, the teams which have been providing punters with good value over the course of the season.

The top 20 teams shown in this table can often be quite surprising as they aren’t always top, or even in the top half, of their respective division.

This happens because when an un-fancied team wins, they are often priced up as big outsiders so the % profit (or return on your stake) would be much greater than if an odds-on favourite were to win the same game.  A great example of this is West Ham in the 2015/16 season when they remarkably saw off Arsenal, Man City and Liverpool away from home with an aggregate score of 7-1, landing huge odds in the process.

Often, title favourites provide a much lower return on investment because although they win a high proportion of their matches, the bookies expect them to and price them up at extremely low odds. The aim, of course, is to try to spot the weekend when the un-fancied team will strike again – its not always easy but we do our best every week with our Saturday value picks in the accumulator section of the site.

How are the profit and loss stats calculated?

The profit and loss stats are calculated as if one unit was placed on each outcome in the win/draw/win market with the odds taken from bet365.  These are then added together cumulatively for the season giving the number of units that would have been won or lost on each result.

The win % return on investment (ROI) for each team is then calculated by dividing the number of units won by the number of games played.

How often are the P/L stats updated?

All P/L stats are updated after every round of fixtures. Generally updates are done on a Monday after weekend fixtures and the day after any weekday evening fixtures.

What other statistics do T&S cover?

As well as profit and losss statistics for each of the top five leagues in English football, the Stats Centre also covers league tables, over and under 1.5, 2.5 and 3.5 goals stats along with both teams to score stats.

I can use the P/L stats for free so how do you afford to keep the site going?

We don’t like the idea of charging fellow punters like many online football statistics services do – instead we prefer to pass our running costs to the bookies where we can.

This happens when our readers take advantage of the bookmaker’s offers featured on the site, so if you are thinking of trying out a new sportsbook and landing some free bets, you can check out the best of them and help with keeping the site going on our free bet offers page
